The Rebis Way

Understand. Experiment. Integrate.

La Voie du Rébis (the Rebis Way) is an approach concerned with what lies behind our emotions, our reactions and our suffering.

It is the framework within which Done with Suffering, the book that lays out the approach and lets you start experimenting with it, and the Rebis app, the free tool that supports that experimentation day to day, both take place.

The approach starts from a simple idea: what we experience can be observed, explored and experimented with.

Starting from what is lived

In everyday life, we almost always encounter the consequence before knowing what produced it.

  • An emotion.
  • A reaction.
  • Anger.
  • Fear.
  • Frustration.
  • Guilt.
  • Suffering.

We experience it before knowing precisely why it appears.

The Rebis Way proposes starting from this consequence to trace back, step by step, to what produces it.

This shift in perspective makes it possible to explore a situation from what is actually being lived, rather than immediately looking for a general explanation.

Understanding is not always enough

You can understand an idea without that understanding changing anything about what you actually experience.

The Rebis Way therefore gives a central place to experimentation.

  • Observe what is happening.
  • Explore what triggers a reaction.
  • Run an experiment.
  • Notice what changes.

What you discover through experience then stops being a mere intellectual understanding.

This is how understanding can become integration.

Starting from a concrete situation

You don't need to have understood the whole approach before you start.

A situation that makes you react can already become a starting point.

  • Anger that keeps coming back.
  • Fear.
  • Jealousy.
  • Frustration.
  • Guilt.
  • A situation you find hard to accept.

Start from what you are experiencing.

The approach then consists of exploring what lies behind that reaction and experimenting from that real situation.

Discover your way of functioning

Even before starting this exploration, you can discover one of the foundational elements presented in The Rebis Way: the four control modes.

Depending on the situation, each of us tends to control our environment in a particular way.

Intimidator, Interrogator, Indifferent or Complainer: which mode do you use most often?

The test presents you with a series of situations and reactions to identify.

It is not meant to provide a diagnosis or lock you into a category.

The goal is to give you a first point of observation on your own way of functioning.

Take a few minutes, answer spontaneously and discover your result.

Suffering is not always obvious

  • Anger doesn't necessarily look like suffering.
  • Fear can seem useful.
  • Jealousy can seem justified.
  • Frustration can seem normal.

Some reactions have even become so familiar that we no longer think to question them.

And yet, they can reveal what lies behind what we are experiencing.

The Rebis Way proposes looking behind the reaction.

  • To understand.
  • To experiment.
  • To discover what can change.

Who is The Rebis Way for?

The Rebis Way is for anyone who wants to better understand how they function, change what no longer suits them, and experiment concretely in their life.

It may be of particular interest to:

  • People looking for greater well-being, who want to move past certain reactions, reduce what makes them suffer, and find more stability in their life.
  • People who want to know themselves better, by going beyond the image they have of themselves to explore how they actually function, their reactions, and what triggers them.
  • People questioning their relationships, who want to understand how they form, evolve, and shape the way they live with others.
  • People seeking deep change in their life, and who are ready to explore their own way of functioning to make it possible.
  • Support professionals, notably psychologists, sophrologists and other practitioners, who want to discover an experimental approach that can enrich their practice.

Three ways to enter the approach

1. Discover your way of functioning

The test gives you a first look at how you react and helps identify your dominant mode of functioning.

2. Discover the approach

Done with Suffering lays out the principles of The Rebis Way and offers experiments to start putting them into practice.

3. Experiment day to day

The Rebis app helps you keep track of your experiences and continue your approach from the situations you encounter.
