Why Do Some People Irritate Us Instantly?
A person walks into a room, speaks, or simply passes by — and irritation appears, almost instantly, with no identifiable objective reason. Nothing in what they said really justifies this reaction.
A reaction that precedes the encounter
This kind of immediate reaction often has nothing to do with the actual person. They resemble someone, evoke a tone of voice, a posture, an attitude already encountered elsewhere — and it is that memory reacting, before the current encounter has even really happened.
Looking at what is actually triggered
Asking who, or what, this person echoes often reveals that the irritation doesn't fully belong to them. Part of it belongs to an older story, replayed on a new face.
